  In my experience teaching adult learners in English and Math skills, I realize that both Piaget and Vygotsky had their good points as cognitive behaviorists. I would like to focus on the role of sociocultural factors and personal stages of development. We know that both Piaget and Vygotsky believe that sociocultural factors can influence the cognitive process to a certain degree. They diverged as to whether the stages of development that all people go through are a stronger influence than the sociocultural environment. In my opinion, both the stages of human cognitive development and the sociocultural environment can impact on the development of people starting from childhood. There is no "either/or" argument here. This simply means that one person who is at a particular stage of cognitive development may still be affected by the sociocultural milieu he exists in.
